Necronomiconomics is a magical skill with incredible power, even at low levels, however, these powers come with great personal costs. Each spell in the Necronomiconomics skill tree has several associated costs or penalties beyond just the mana points spent to cast it. The character casting these spells might take damage, find their stats reduced, lose a large quantity of mana, or all of the above. Because many of these penalties are capable of "stacking" extending the duration of the penalties, great care must be taken not to over-use the spells or the character might find that they are too weak at a critical moment.

These penalties are considered Curses, however, so anything that will remove curses can be used to offset these costs (eg, Zodiacal Wand or Potion of Purity).

The most significant penalty for all of the spells (except Nightmare curse) is Necromantic Damage necromantic damage over time (DOT) to the character. The amounts of said Necromantic Damage necromantic damage per 'tick' is a consistent value based on the character's own Magic Power magic power. Thus it can be resisted with a corresponding level of Necromantic Damage Resistance Necromantic Damage Resistance. For example, a character with 6 Magic Power magic power only needs 1 Necromantic Damage Resistance Necromantic Damage Resistance to negate all Necromantic Damage to the himself from any Necronomiconomics spell (see Necropain entry for the full table of Necromantic Damage Resistance Necromantic Damage Resistance values needed).

Meanwhile, their brains are beset by Eldritch Things who cunningly replace their internal thinkmeats with the Bees of Evil. Caution: exposure to Bees of Evil may prove to have toxic side effects to the caster. (Note: This is the only spell that doesn't inflict Necromantic Damage to the character)
3 Mark of chthon64.png Mark of Chthon Mark of Chthon With this spell, you can wear Chthon's Mark (which makes men mightier than mortals) for a short time. Beware the cost, of course.
4 Fleeting life64.png Pact of Fleeting Life Necromantic Damage Resistance +1 Pact of Fleeting Life In exchange for the power to steal the life-force of your enemies, you promise to give some of your life to some elder being. This bartering is not for the faint of heart.
5 Eldritch pillar64.png Eldritch Inhabitation Necromantic Damage Resistance +1 Eldritch Inhabitation This spell possesses the target with a being not fit for this reality; it will tear its way back to where it came however it can, with predictably destructive results.
6 Tenebrous rift64.png Tenebrous Rift Necromantic Damage Resistance +1 Tenebrous Rift Open a horrible rift of evil which consumes all in its reach.
