Shield Bearer starts the player with a Shield wooden.pngWooden Shield (See: Starting Equipment).

Unlike weapon skills, Shield Bearer does not require you to have a shield equipped to receive its full effects and does not grant a double bonus when equipping two shields. It functions identically whether the user is dual wielding weapons, using a weapon and a shield, or using two shields; the character can even use abilites such as Defensive Bash and Tortoise Maneuver with dual weapons.

2 Shieldbearer1 64.png Duck And Cover! Block Chance +2 Passive: Duck and Cover! Fight smarter, not better! Can increase your defense for a while after you are hit.
3 Shieldbearer2 64.png Defensive Bash Block Chance +1 Defensive Bash Sometimes the best defense is to hit the other guy really hard on the head with your shield. Deals a large, crushing impact to an enemy, perhaps stunning them. Damage scales to Block Chance.
4 Shieldbearer3 64.png Tortoise Maneuver Block Chance +1 Tortoise Maneuver The Tortoise Maneuver is not particularly feared by anyone because it mostly involves just holding your shield over your head and cowering, but it might help you survive a little longer. Using this skill enhances your defense until you get hit enough that you lose focus.

It's like the shield is a part of you. If a part of you didn't get hurt when it got hit by things, and it was really tough, and you held it between you and bad guys. So it's really more like you're really good with shields. Grants a chance to execute the Defensive Bash in combat. (10% on hitting)

Name Cooldown Effect
Duck and Cover! - 20 % chance when hit to proc Duck and Cover on the character for 24 turns. It causes the following: Crushing Damage Resistance +1 Stubbornness +2 Nimbleness -1 Melee Power -1 Armour Absorption +2 Block Chance +10 Health Regeneration Bonus +4.
Defensive Bash Cooldown 12 Defensive Bash deals Crushing Damage ( 6 + Block Chance Multi.png 0.2 ) to a single monster, paralyzes it for 3 turns and knocks it back 1 tile. Has a chance to cause Crushed Bones.
Tortoise Maneuver Cooldown 36 Tortoise Maneuver is an ability that buffs the character with the following effects: Stubbornness +2 Nimbleness -2 Armour Absorption +2 Block Chance +5 Health Regeneration Bonus +4. It lasts until the character takes 9 hits.
